Sh. Funadhoo shore protection project commenced

MTCC disclosed that the company commenced the shore protection project of Funadhoo Island on 22 August 2023. MTCC was awarded the contract for the Sh. Funadhoo shore protection project, on 26 January 2023. The contract was signed by Director General Fathimath Shana Farooq on behalf of the Ministry and CEO Adam Azim, on behalf of MTCC. Under this project, the beach of the island will be protected to solve the problem of erosion. A 670-metre revetment and three 20-metre groynes will be installed to protect the erosion area and the beach will be enriched with sand. The project is to be completed within 280 days. The value of the project is MVR 20 million.

On August 22, 2023, MTCC officially commenced the shore protection endeavor for Funadhoo Island, as announced by the company.

The contract for the Sh. Funadhoo shore protection initiative was secured by MTCC on January 26, 2023. The agreement was formally ratified through the signatures of Director General Fathimath Shana Farooq, representing the Ministry, and CEO Adam Azim, representing MTCC.

With the main objective of addressing erosion issues, this project aims to safeguard the island's shoreline. The approach involves the installation of a 670-meter revetment along with three 20-meter groynes, strategically positioned to shield the eroded areas. Additionally, beach nourishment through sand enrichment will contribute to the overall enhancement of the beach quality.

Anticipated to conclude within a span of 280 days, the project holds an estimated value of MVR 20 million.
