Dr. Muizzu's manifesto: 65,000 flats from Male' City area
Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the presidential candidate from the PPM-PNC alliance, has introduced a comprehensive manifesto detailing 19 crucial initiatives with the goal of reshaping the developmental landscape of Male' City.
Unveiling his manifesto on Sunday evening, Dr. Muizzu presented a set of policies that cater to the needs of the youth, women, and the fishing sector. These policies comprise the first three chapters of the manifesto. The manifesto is divided into eight primary sections, all of which tackle the prevailing housing challenges in the Maldives.
While the blueprint for Male' City's advancement spans several stages over a span of twenty years, the manifesto outlines the allocation of a total of 65,000 flats from various locations including Gulhifalhu, Giraavaru Falhu, Fushidhiggaru Falhu, Male', and Hulhumale'. Notably, special emphasis will be given to individuals who were previously listed for flats but were not subsequently allocated residences.
Among its proposals, the manifesto suggests the demolition of the existing Sinamale' flats in Male' City, to be replaced by towering structures at the same site. Furthermore, it outlines the development of Hulhumale' Phase II according to the previous master plan, and the incorporation of Hulhumale' under the jurisdiction of the Male' City Council.
Moreover, plans encompass the restoration of electricity and water systems in Villimale', accompanied by the issuance of permits for the construction of ten-story buildings in the area.
The manifesto outlines an integrated development initiative, to be funded by investor contributions and revenue generated from housing units. This initiative will be implemented across six to eight islands in the north and south of the country.
Additionally, the manifesto envisions the establishment of a dedicated fund as an alternative to relying on private companies for housing construction. It also advocates for the creation of a land development system aligned with public preferences. The policy ensures the availability of accessible loans, funds for home renovation, and home completion loans that adhere to Islamic principles, if desired.
The document also proposes the relocation of the planned commercial port from Gulhufalhu to the industrial island of Thilafushi, in accordance with plans initiated during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen.
Dr. Muizzu's manifesto pledges to extend basic services to all islands and initiate road construction projects in larger islands. It positions Addu City as the hub for administrative tourism and an international gateway. Furthermore, the manifesto outlines strategies for leveraging airports to enhance tourism and augment visitor revenue.
